3 Images for Week 0

1. Post Three Images:
a)

The two images above represent a part of my Year 12 Major Work. The first image is the final SketchUp images of the house i was constructing. It shows the sections of the house from different angles (e.g. left, right and front). These sections allow a broader understanding of the different components of the house and the materials used within the construction of the interior. The second image shows a variety of hand drawing of the SketchUp Image. The top right drawing is the site plan, the top left is the floor plan (two story), the bottom left is the elevations and the bottom right is the landscape design.

b)

The Great Pyramids of Giza, constructed in Egypt over 4,500 years ago serve as an indication on the capabilities and sophistication of architecture within the ancient world. Using a skilled labor force of approximately 200,000 men the Pyramids were constructed to an uncanny precision using the same method that had been used for earlier and later constructions - laying out parts of the plan on the ground at a 1-to-1 scale. Such a working diagram would also serve to generate the architecture of the pyramid with precision unmatched by any other means. The significance of the pyramids in terms of architectural management (planning, designing and construction) is evident by the fact that it is the oldest surviving pyramid to date, allowing us to access the capabilities of the Ancient world and understand the change of architecture over time in different areas of the world.

c)

Petra is one of the most awe inspiring architectural constructions in Jordan and continually amazes me despite the many times i have visited it. Petra was built by the Nabataens and was made their capital. Construction dates back to almost 312BC. Petra has also been considered as one of the modern 7 wonders of the world.
